Today (as of this minute on Friday, July 26th at 7:00 pst), Hello Bluebird released 6 new background stamps and also restocked the others that have been out of stock for some time. So they had a Background Bash this week with the design team showing off all of the new background stamps on Instagram. I wanted to show you the two cards I posted with directions as well as show you all of the background stamps stamped and colored. So let's get this party started!
First, here are the six background stamps in action with directions on how I made each:
This one is called Old Oak. It's perfect for all those critter stamps and fall backgrounds. I embossed it with white embossing powder on watercolor paper. I then painted it with light brown paints throwing some pink in here and there.
This one is a very large scale gingham and is called Buffalo Check. I first taped the edged of my white cardstock cut to 6x6". I then rubbed Distress Oxide Inks on it going from darkest to lightest in the center using Picked Raspberry, Worn Lipstick, and Spun Sugar. I then embossed the stamp with white embossing powder.
I wanted to show you two pictures of this one so you could see how pretty this embossing powder is. This one is called Petal Play. I saw one of the designers use it as a background for a jungle scene stamped in a nice khaki color and it looked really cool. I'm not sure what I will use this for yet, but the color is a little softer in real life so it will work well with any of the cute stamps. I used a new embossing powder that I recently purchased from SSS called Coral by Brutus Monroe. I hadn't tried his embossing powders before and I wasn't real happy with it when I got it. The color came out too soft to use for a greeting and it stained the paper around it to be a similar color, but lighter. So I thought it would work well on this design as it didn't matter if it was light (prefer it that way) and if there was color inside the lines. It turned out great. I would love to play with this stamp more as it has so many possibilities!
This stamp is called Simply Squared. I rubbed Distress Oxide Inks on the background of my cardstock first using Cracked Pistachio, Evergreen Bough and Peacock Feathers. I then stamped the design over the inked background with Lawn Fawn Peacock ink. I added some more LF Fish Tank ink on just the edges.
I love this one - it's called Handmade Plaid. I like it because the pattern is small and subtle perfect for backgrounds. I embossed it on watercolor paper with white embossing powder. I painted it with blue and purple Daniel Smith watercolors. I use Ranger Watercolor Paper as it is pure white which I like especially with white embossing powder. I used this one on a card I will show you below.
This one is my favorite and is called In The Meadow. I love these pretty flowers and I couldn't wait to color them! For the first one, I embossed it with white embossing powder on watercolor paper. I then painted it with blue watercolors using more color inside the images. For the second one, I stamped it with a light color of ink and then colored it in with colored pencils. I see many possibilities for this one for summer and spring cards with all my favorite critter stamps!
Next I'll share the two cards I made with the above backgrounds and then you will be seeing the rest used in future HB cards!
For this card, I first die-cut the background into a stitched rectangle card size (5.5" x 4.25") by Lawn Fawn. I made the background with white embossing powder on watercolor paper and I painted over it with blue and purple watercolor and then flicked more paint on it while it was still wet.
I used the HB Storybook Friends by stamping them on white cardstock with MFT Natural Ink. I colored them in with colored pencils. I added the critters over the frame which was die-cut using the HB Gallery Frame 4 set (just cut off the bottom portion). I stamped the sentiment using a banner from the HB Stitched Tag dies. The sentiment is from the Typed Everyday sentiment stamps stamped in black ink. I added some PPP jewels in Pansy Purple and Caribbean Blue.
I made this card using the In The Meadow stamp colored with colored pencils (took a bit of time, but was very fun to do!). I die-cut it with a full size Lawn Fawn stitched rectangle. I then die-cut a small frame from the HB Photo Stack die. I colored the inside piece with Copic Markers.
I stamped the images using the Banner Buddies stamp set. The sentiment is also from that stamp set and it fit perfectly on the bottom of the frame embossed with Pink Peony embossing powder. I used some PPP jewels in Pansy Purple, Blush, Green, and Aquamarine.
That's all for today friends! I will be making more cards with the other backgrounds soon to share with you. I hope you all have a great weekend and some of you get to enjoy these new perdy background stamps. HB is just always da' bomb!!! xoxo suzy
