Hi everyone! Tonight is the Simon Says Stamp new Rest and Refresh release, so I am sharing with you a "one stamp, five ways" post with one of the all new stamp sets (see my five cards above)! I have a new set of watercolor cards in this release also I can't wait to show you as I think they are one of my better sets. This one is called "Suzy's Adventurous Watercolor Prints" and here is an image:
I will have them all painted on my blog tomorrow for the first day of the two day blog hop so come back to see them! You can see the entire Rest and Refresh release here. My post today is using the new stamp set that is called Your Light. Here is an image:
I picked this one as it is very me - anything beach themed is my favorite and I love how it has an East Coast cottage feel to it. I have five cards to share with you tonight shown in the image at the beginning of this post. I want to confess that I made all five of these in one afternoon (now mind you this was not easy and caused me a lot of stress trying to finish them today before my light died down for photography). I don't advise trying to make 5 cards in one afternoon, but I did want to tell you it can be done. My coloring isn't as detailed as usual though, so please don't call me out of that! haha
Forgive this photo looking a little dark - I guess it got too late to get a good one! I started by stamping all of the images from the Your Light stamp set on a piece of white cardstock with black ink. I then colored them in with Copic Markers. We all know that colored pencils are my favorite, but I wanted to show a card using Copics as an option also. But I didn't enjoy coloring this one just for the record - haha. Once you discover the joy of coloring with pencils, there is no going back I fear! I used my "random stamping" method for this card arranging the stamps like a puzzle using my Misti to stamp them.
Once they were all colored, I worked on the sentiment. I used the SSS Summertime Wafer Die die-cut from white cardstock and I colored the inside letters with Copic markers to match the card. I finished it with PPP jewels in Cornflower Blue and Blue Lagoon.
CARD 2:
It seems that I stuck to a color theme for all of these cards that is very nautical - just seemed to fit! I first made this background with Distress Oxide Inks and my new Picket Fence brushes. I used Chipped Sapphire and Faded Jeans inks. I splattered some water over it and blotted it off so it had splotches. I then die-cut four white and four Guava cardstock squares using the SSS Stitched Square dies. I've fallen in love with the Lawn Fawn Guava cardstock as it is a coral red without being just pure red. I stamped the stamp images on the four white squares with black ink.
I colored the images in with colored pencils (I was really rushing here so no judgement please!). I then attached them over the red squares and attached them to the card background. I used some more PPP jewels on the top left corner in Raspberry Red.
CARD 3:
This card was a bit time consuming and I don't like it as much as the others. I stamped all of the little stamps with white embossing powder on watercolor paper. I then used Daniel Smith watercolors in blues and turquoise over the background. They are small and seemed to disappear a bit so I used a white color pencil to highlight the inside of each image. That helped a little, but they still don't make a big impact this way.
I stamped the sailboat and greeting on another die-cut square with black ink. I colored it in with matching colored pencils and then used some Caribbean Blue Jewels around the image.
CARD 4:
This card uses that yummy Guava cardstock again - my new favorite color! This is another random stamped background, but this time I used MFT Natural Ink so I could color the images with no-lines. I colored them all in with colored pencils and used gray shadows behind them. I must confess I did have this one already colored before putting these cards together today and it was a bit time consuming to do with the no outlines on the images.
I stamped the greeting on a banner die-cut from Guava cardstock with white embossing powder. I use some more of the Cornflower Blue and Sapphire Blue Jewels around the greeting.
CARD 5:
This card turned out better than I expected. I was in a rush to get my fifth card made and this was a fairly quick technique. I stamped all of the stamped images on white cardstock using SSS Steel Navy embossing powder on a stitched rectangle. I then colored the images in with blue colored pencils.
I attached this piece to a rectangle I die-cut from a piece of patterned paper I had in my stash with a nice blue color getting darker as it went down the sheet. Too bad I don't remember which paper pad it was from! I added the same two color of blue Jewels around the boats. Note: These were also colored very rapidly so no judging! haha
See all you can get done in one single afternoon if you really put your mind to it? I also used another one of the brand new stamps to make 8 cards for a guest post on the SSS blog on the last day of June, so check that out if you have time. Here is a sneak of the cards in that post using the brand new Summa Time stamp set:
Isn't that the cutest little stamp set to create patterns with? You can check out the entire new Rest and Refresh release at Simon Says Stamp now or wait until the blog hop tomorrow where I will be showing you my new set of watercolor cards all painted! So don't forget to hop along with us for the next two days to see lots of inspiration with this new release!
Great cards. Using the stamps to create such a colorful background is a great idea.
