Today is the first day of the Simon Says Stamp blog hop for their new release called Celebrate You. As you have probably seen thus far on the hop, it is full of products that celebrate father's, birthdays, etc... I have a new set of watercolor cards in this release called Celebrate Dad. Here is an image:
I have colored all of these watercolor cards to show you how they will look all perdied up! I don't always use watercolor on them even though they are printed on Ranger Watercolor Paper. Sometimes I use colored pencils or Copic markers, or a combo off all three! Let's get started and I'll give you some of my tips to dress them up after each card! The details of the blog hop are at the end of this (((long))) post!
Tips/Details: I used my new Brutus Monroe Metallic watercolors on this card which is why it has so much sheen. For the background behind the guitar I used Cactus and Lime. There are links to all of the colors I used in my product list at the bottom of this post. I used a white Uniball marker for the white spots and lines on this card. I used Gold Gouache on the guitar as it is more opaque than watercolor and gave it a nice sheen!
CARD 2:
Tips/Details: I colored the boots and hat with colored pencils and then I cut them out from the watercolor card; this gives you the option of making some of these Father's Day cards into other card subjects for the men in your lives. I used the CZ Yes You Can stamp set for the greeting on this card with Lawn Fawn Walnut and Doe inks. For the background, I attached the boots to a piece of paper from the ModaScraps 6x6 papers called Let Your Soul Bloom. These were in a recent card kit and I was saving this one for just the right card. I added some PPP Espresso jewels to finish this card.
CARD 3:
Tips/Details: I used a Silver Glitter Pen from this set (or you can use a Silver Uniball) on all the tools so they look like they are metal; I used Dandelion Yellow Nuvo Drops on the background. I used colored pencils to color in all of the tools.
CARD 4:
Tips/Details: I used colored pencils to color in the BBQ and all of the letters. For the letters, I used a yellow, orange, and red pencil mixing them as I moved down each letter. I did the same for the fire on the grill and then I covered it with Morning Dew Nuvo Drops which are clear just like Glossy Accents. I used a Silver Glitter Pen from the Kaiser Craft glitter pen set for the BBQ. I added some black nuvo drops to the background and made a mess of them!
CARD 5:
I messed up this watercolor card by making the shirt a really ugly color of green that didn't match the tie so I cut the tie off of it to use on a different background. I never waste anything if I mess up - haha! I made a watercolor background for the tie. I embossed a sentiment from the Everything Together stamp set. I added a Sentiment Banner with an "I love you" from the Love Messages stamp set. I finished with some PPP Caribbean Blue jewels.
CARD 6:
Tips/Details: Nothing really to state about his one. I painted it with watercolors and then used colored pencils over the dinosaur for shading; I used some Blue Lagoon glitter Nuvo drops over the background
CARD 7:
Tips/Details: I left a greeting off this one so you could add your own; I painted it with watercolors first and then added shading and details and colored the tent with colored pencils; I used the CZ Dude die cut by coloring the word Dude with Copic Markers; the sub-greeting is from a pre-printed set that was in one of my recent card kits by SSS HERE
CARD 8:
Tips/Details: I painted the background with watercolors and then colored the golf bag with colored pencils; I used a gray colored pencil to add shading behind the letters so they popped more; I used white glossy Nuvo drops over the background; I used a silver glitter pen over areas of the bag that would be metal
CARD 9:
Tips/Details: I've gotta be honest here and tell you I completely ruined this WC card so it became this which I still don't particularly like! I originally painted the vase orange (why!?!?!) and it looked horrible; I tried cutting it out and I used a gold paint pen to color it and then redrew all of the lines and letters with a black fine tip marker over the gold (too much work? yes!). I colored the plants with colored pencils. I mounted the vase on a piece of Lawn Fawn Spiffy Speckles patterned paper. I used Metallic Copper Penny nuvo drops over the background. Saved? Yes, but certainly not my favorite and was way too much work!
CARD 10:
Tips/Details: I actually like the way this one turned out! I painted it first with watercolors, but then I used a blue colored pencil over the shirt to make it look like fabric; I didn't like the sentiment on it, so I used a SSS Stitched Rectangle over it to cover it up. I then used the CZ Yes You Can stamp and die set for the sentiment including the Be Brave. I used LF Lobster ink for the Be Brave words. I used Midnight Blue glossy nuvo drops around the sentiment.
CARD 11:
Tips/Details: I really like how this one turned out. I colored the cars with colored pencils and then I added shadows behind each with an N2 Copic Marker leaving the background white; this one didn't have a sentiment so I used the CZ Babe die and colored the inside of it with Copics; I used a sentiment strip from the mom set I got in my April card kit.
CARD 12:
Tips/Details: First off, let it be noted that it is 11:30 on Wednesday night and this blog post goes live at 5:00 am my time so yes, I'm working very last minute and I'm dead tired thus no telling what I might say! I used watercolors on the background of this one and pencils for the sailboat. I used Blue Lagoon Nuvo Drops on the sky and water. I used a white Uniball marker to make some of the letters stand out.
I blogged a "one stamp, five ways" post yesterday using the brand new Gerbera Daisy background stamp. You can see that post HERE. Here is one of the cards (but there are five more as I made six total so go visit!):
