Hi friends! I promised a while back to post a "one stamp, five ways" using the new Simon Says Stamp Pretty Peonies Background Stamp, so today is the day! This one took me a while as the flowers just called out to be colored with colored pencils which is always a little more time consuming! But hopefully the results are worth it - you get to decide haha! Here is the Pretty Peonies Background stamp:
I have five cards to share with you today using this stamp so here we go!
Card 1:
This was the image I shared on the last SSS blog hop. I started by stamping the entire stamp on a 6x6 piece of white cardstock with MFT Natural Ink and then I colored it in with colored pencils. I bring this part up for a reason. It makes no sense to color the entire thing (which I did for several of my cards) when you are only using a card size piece of it (5.5x4.25). I end up die-cutting off quite a bit of my colored image. Not smart from a time perspective!
You can see from this card front image just how much I cut off and covered! Wouldn't it be smart to design my card first and then just color what is going to show? This thought process is simply to let you the reader save time; as for me alas it is too late! ha
I die-cut a piece of my fully colored panel with a rectangle die. I then used my brand new Guava cardstock by Lawn Fawn for the card base. I've been looking for a coral/red that isn't actually red red if that makes sense and this one fits the bill! I also want to point out that I am now using three kinds of colored pencils as my collection is growing! I've recently picked up a few of the Caran d'Ache Luminance pencils and I love them. I'll do a post on how they all differ soon. But currently I use some of those, my Polychromos (favs), and my Prismacolors (least favs).
I used the SSS Twisted Stitched Border Dies for the top portion of this card with white cardstock. I stamped a sentiment using Wow Pink Lady Embossing Powder and a SSS stamp called Thoughtful Messages. I added some PPP Raspberry Jewels to the sides of the sentiment.
Card 2:
I wanted to make one card using non-flower colors so all my cards weren't realistic and the same exact colors (reds and pinks). I used all of my aqua, green and blue pencils for this one. Again, I stamped my image with my favorite no-line ink I use called Natural by MFT.
I die-cut a frame using the Hello Bluebird Gallery Frame 1 dies and colored it with Copic Markers. I used the SSS Big Friend die for the word and again, I colored the word with Copic Markers. I stamped the rest of the greeting using the SSS Mom Flower Stamps on the smallest sentiment strip from the SSS Sentiment Strip dies. I finished with some PPP Seaglass jewels.
Card 3:
For this card, I stamped the background stamp on white cardstock with SSS Intense Black Ink which works with Copic Markers. My daughter then colored it in and she doesn't shade with the markers. So I decided to go back in and shade with colored pencils over the markers. I must say, I preferred it without the shading as one shade sometimes look more graphic without all that shading (does that make sense?!?!?).
I die-cut the (fully colored 6x6) piece using a large Lawn Fawn stitched rectangle die. I used the SSS CZ Thoughtful 2 die for the sentiment and colored the word in with matching Copic markers. The "God is Good" came from the SSS Tiny Words Faith stamps and again I used the SSS Sentiment Banner dies and then cut it to fit around the word die so it tucks up on in there! I finished it with some PPP Watermelon Jewels.
Card 4:
I've got to be honest. I really do NOT like this card. The green color is just not working for me and it photographed even more vomit green than it started as! ha Anyway, we all make a few we don't like, right? I started with a piece of my best watercolor paper as I wanted this one to SHINE! I stamped with embossing ink and white embossing powder on Fabriano Watercolor Paper and then painted it in with Daniel Smith watercolors.
I used the SSS Thank You die with vellum for the bottom piece and white cardstock for the words. I attached that to the bottom of the card. I also attached a white frame using the Hello Bluebird Skating Pond die. I added some Pretty Pink Posh Raspberry sequins around the sentiment. I can't seem to use sequins anymore - the jewels just always look better to me! ???
Card 5:
This background was made as part of my third installment of Making Backgrounds ahead of time so you can read the details there. Basically I used Distress Oxide Inks to blend the colors with Wilted Violet, Picked Raspberry, and Worn Lipstick. I used the SSS Woodgrain Block die and a strip of purple glitter paper under the flowers.
I stamped the flowers on white cardstock with black ink and colored them in with Copic Markers - this time no pencil shading! I cut around the edges and arranged them over the border. I then stamped the sentiment using Pink Peony embossing powder on a SSS Stitched Square die. I finished with some Amethyst Jewels around the flowers. (((sorry I can't remember what SSS stamp set I used for the sentiment).
Thanks for visiting today. I am off to Ohio (again!) for a card making retreat. I just got back a few weeks ago from create, so this is two trips in a row for me and I normally NEVER travel. Yes, I have some anxiety setting in! Anyway - have a great week and I will be back soon with all kinds of creations I make at the retreat! suzy xoxo
Love all of these. Love your 5 card series always!
