Today Simon Says Stamp released a big group of Valentine's products called "You Are Loved". We might be in the holiday mood right now and not thinking of Valentine's yet, but many of these products have to do with love and what better topic than love for the holidays, right? Also, think of Christmas gift ideas for yourself! And for others - thus my newest set of watercolor cards is called the Gift Card Set. I drew these images to be the perfect set for giving as a gift to someone. They cover all of the card sentiments needed including birthday, thank you, etc... They are bundled with a set of Prima Watercolor Pencils so the gift is complete for any crafter on your list! Even kids would enjoy a gift like this - I know teenagers would as my girls would love it! Here is an image of the watercolor card set:

Now for the really good news! The watercolor cards are normally $9.99 a set. The watercolor pencils by Prima are usually $16.99 a set. So that totals $26.98. BUT, this set is only $19.99 - so you are getting $6.99 off the price if you were purchasing these items separately. I know I have lots of gift exchanges where I need to bring a basic gift in the $20-$25 dollar range, so this one is going to be given at all of those this year! Now let's get to the 12 watercolor cards colored!
For all of my watercolor cards (which are printed on Ranger Watercolor Paper), I start by watercoloring the background and then any larger areas. Then I go in with Copic markers to color some areas - maybe something that I want really good blending on or an animal or something I don't want to watercolor! Then I go in with colored pencils and I add shading and depth and details. Then I go in with Tonic Nuvo Drops to finish and cover all kinds of areas with them! I'll tell you which Nuvo Drops I used on each and show you detailed shots for some of them.
Card 1:
I watercolored the background with a wet on wet technique - add water and then drop in the color so it spreads to the edges of the water and you get the soft edges around the sky. I watercolored the balloon, but then added a lot of shading with colored pencils. I colored the hedgehog with colored pencils so there are little strokes. I added a black Nuvo Drop for his eye. I used Chocolate Fondue glitter drops over his fur. I used Sherbet Shimmer and Yellow Bird glitter drops on the flowers and butterfly.
Card 2:
I used the same wet on wet watercolor technique for the sky on this one but also added some blue shading on the sky. I colored all of the flowers with Copics and then added Nuvo Drops to them. I used Strawberry Coolis, Rosewater, and Limoncello Jewel Drops over the flowers since they are transparent. I used some white Nuvo Drops over the background. I used Morning Dew clear drops on the bee wings (see how they crack - that just happens).
Card 3:
I went a little crazy on this one - I think I covered every single detail with Nuvo Drops. I painted the bacbkround with several colors of watercolors using the wet on wet technique and then added some pencil shading over it. I watercolored the cake and other elements as well. I used pencils to shade. I then used glitter Nuvo Drops over many of the elements in Yellow Bird, Sherbet Shimmer, and Blue Lagoon including the letters. I used clear drops (Morning Dew) over the plate and balloons.
Card 4:
I had fun painting this one as it isn't a usual color scheme for me. I painted it all with watercolor first and then used a lot of colored pencil lines over it to shade and add the wood look to the crate. I used a gray N2 Copic marker around the crate to look like a base so it wasn't floating. I used Bottle Green drops on the succulents. I used Strawberry Coolis on the flowers. I used an N2 Copic marker behind the letters as a shadow so they popped as well.
Card 5:
I started with a wet on wet watercolor technique on the background all the way to the edges. I then used colored pencils over areas to add additional color and on the grass. I used colored pencils over all the flowers and to color the otter. I used a light tan color pencil over the otter to make some areas lighter - love that a lighter pencil will show up over darker ones for shading. I used Nuvo Drops on the flowers including Strawberry Coolis, English Mustard, Bottle Green, and Dandelion Yellow. I used white and black for the eyes (put the white down first and let dry, then add a smaller drop of black on the lower part of the white drop for eyes).
Card 6:
I used a watercolor wet on wet technique here, but made it go to the edge on one side and not on the other. Woot what a trick huh?!?!? I used colored pencils for the dog and cat and grass. I used Bottle Green Nuvo Drops on the grass. I used white and black for the eyes again and black on the bird eyes. I used Sunlit Meadow glitter drops on the leaves. I used Strawberry Coulis on the hearts. I used Blue Lagoon glitter drops over the background. I used Chocolate Fondue glitter drops on the nose of the dog.
Card 7:
I watercolored the background and then used colored pencils over the buildings. I used Grey Mist Jewel Drops over the windows and you can see it cracks - if you don't like cracking, use Glossy Accents by Ranger for clear areas. I used Metallic Silver Lining drops on the doorknobs. I used my favorite (clear with glitter) White Blizzard drops on the clouds. I used Strawberry Coulis over the hearts. I used colored pencils to shade the gray areas of the clouds.
Card 8:
I painted the background and then added shading with colored pencils. I used pencils on the bear as well and the flowers. I used Pink Champagne glitter drops in the center of the flowers. I used Sherbet Shimmer drops over the background. I used a white Uniball on the ribbon.
Card 9:
I used a white Uniball for the dots on the balloon. I love the colors on this card so much - these are MY colors! I used blue watercolor on the background and inside the clouds. I used watercolor for the balloon with pencils for shading. I used white dots and Blue Lagoon glitter drops on the background. I used Aquatic Mist glitter drops on the bottom of the balloon and the letters - they are such a pretty Aqua color and are in the photo.
Card 10:
I used Gold Coast (new for me and a really soft gold/silver glitter) Nuvo Drops over the vase. I used the gorgeous Purple Rain glitter drops over the background. I used Dandelion Yellow in the center of the flowers. I used a white uniball on the flower centers.
Card 11:
I used watercolor and pencils on the background and pencils on the actual mushroom house. I used Sherbet Shimmer Nuvo Drops on the flowers. I used a gold glitter pen around the window and door frames. I used Pale Gold Nuvo Drops on the door and windows. I used Golden Sunset glitter drops on the underside of the mushroom and as dots on the top of the mushroom. I used a white uniball behind the letters.
I used English Mustard drops around the leaves and on the yellow small flowers. I used Pale Periwinkle jewel drops over the background - don't they look cool since they are transparent??? I love the way they look on this and may try this again with other jewel colors.
