Today is the brand spankin' new Simon Says Stamp holiday card kit release called Comfort and Joy. This is one of there very loaded limited edition kits that sell out in hours. I guarantee it will bring you JOY if you get one - not sure about comfort!!! Here is a photo of the full kit:
I made five full size cards plus a smaller 3x4 card with this kit, so this is technically a "one stamp, five ways" post today. I tried to primarily focus on the stamp set in the kit so it qualifies! haha I also used the background stamp a couple times as that one is just gorgeous! I replaced my usual love affair with Tonic Nuvo Drops with these Ranger Stickles and they work nicely (but I'll never get over my Nuvo Drop obsession). I also LOVE the gold embossing powder in the kit. So let's get started!
Card 1:
For this card, I embossed the 6x6 Poinsettia background stamp with the Antique Gold embossing powder in the kit. I also embossed the ornaments in the Comfort and Joy stamp set with the embossing powder. Last, I embossed the sentiment on a stitched rectangle with it. I really loved that embossing powder, huh?!?!?!
I stamped the leaves with MFT Natural Ink and then used the green Stickles over them so they are really glittery. I colored in the ornaments with Copic Markers (Peach, Coral, and Cadmium Red).
Now it was time to assemble the card. I attached the greeting to the top of the card. Next I arranged the pine branches below it. Then I used some gold cording to hang all three ornaments from the pine branches. I tied a green bow with the ribbon in the kit and added some PPP Raspberry Jewels above the greenery. Ignore the little pieces of snow that landed on my card while I was photographing them.
Card 2:
I had a background made from this blog post about making backgrounds ahead of time where I had rubbed Twisted Citron and Mowed Lawn Distress Oxide Inks on a piece of white cardstock. I decided to use it with the same background stamp. This time I embossed it with white embossing powder. I stamped the sentiment on a small stitched rectangle with the gold embossing powder and attached that to the top of the card.
I went a little crazy with those pine tree branch stamps on this card! I embossed some with the gold embossing powder. I stamped others with MFT Natural Ink and colored them with colored pencils. I also stamped the little yellow flower branch and colored it in with colored pencils. I arranged them all together below the sentiment rectangle overlapping each other. I then colored the little mistletoe stamp with colored pencils and added some Stickles to it. I added some red stickle drops to the greeting and then two rows of the green ribbon in the kit to the bottom of the card.
Card 3:
This is another background I made ahead of time on this post, so I won't go into detail about how I made it. Unfortunately I have almost used all the backgrounds I made on the two posts about making them ahead of time, so I think it is time for a 3rd post in that series! I used the Outline Snowflake cling stamp embossed with WOW embossing powder in White Puff. I rubbed Tumbled Glass Distress Ink over the embossed snowflakes. I attached a row of the gold tape in the kit to the bottom of the card. I stamped the sentiment on a white banner in gold embossing powder and put that over the tape. I then added some sparkling clear sequins to each end.
I stamped all of the gorgeous snowflake stamps from the Comfort and Joy stamp set on white cardstock with MFT Natural Ink. I then outlined them with a silver glitter pen from this set. I used the Gold Stickles over portions of the snowflakes to make them sparkle. I cut them all out (no dies for this stamp set yet, but I'm sure there will be some coming!). I arranged them over the background and added some more sparkling clear sequins.
Card 4:
I really like the colors in this background. I stamped the same snowflakes all over some watercolor paper and embossed with white embossing powder. I then used my Daniel Smith watercolors in blues and purples over them. I love painting over embossed images. I flicked some paint on as well.
I embossed the sentiment on a SSS Stitched Rectangle with WOW Royal crush embossing powder. I stamped the ornament with MFT Natural Ink and then colored it in with colored pencils. I added some glitter Nuvo Drops to it in Sherbet Shimmer and Purple Rain. I used some SSS Party Time sequins around the ornament and greeting.
Card 5:
Ok, so to be honest, I'm not loving this card. I really wanted to use the present stamps in the kit and also some of the cute Ranger die-cuts, but unfortunately I think it is a fail. BUT, it could be really cute if I changed the colors of the presents - so let's just go with the concepts here. First off, I made a cool background right?!?!? I used the tape over white cardstock in strips. It is sticky like washi tape so it was easy to apply and I love that part of the card. Next, I used the two tree die-cuts, but they weren't the right color, so I colored over them with a green colored pencil - it is easy to change the color which is a cool thing, right?!?!?!
Next, I stamped all the gifts with MFT Natural Ink and colored them in with colored pencils. I outlined them with a fine tip black marker. I think the playfulness of the outlines (doodled) and the lighter non-traditional colors just didn't work here. But hey, the rest works right?!?!?! Anyway, we can't all be perfect every single time, so I'm ok with an occasional imperfection - hahaha. I used the gold stickles all over the trees.
Bonus 3x4 Card:
There are smaller Kraft envelopes in the kit, so I decided to make one smaller card. This one was really simple. All I did is emboss the sentiment on a small stitched rectangle with the gold embossing powder. I attached two die-cuts from the Ranger pack in the kit and then the sentiment rectangle over them. Notice the song matches the sentiment? Cool huh? Can that make up for my last fail?!?!?!
Next on the blog hop is Heather Hoffman.
