Today, Simon Says Stamps released their September Card Kit called Sea Treasure. And for someone like me that LOVES the sea, it is certainly a treasure! I was so excited when I got this box to create samples to make you want it too (hehehe). Mermaids are just so awesome and so fun to color. So today I have five cards to share with you focusing on the stamp set (as that is the whole point of my "one stamp, five ways" series), but also ONLY using the products in the kit. The stamp set is sold alone and is called Beautiful Mermaids. There is also a set of Beautiful Mermaid Dies to go with it (which I wish I had while I made these cards!). Here is an image of the kit:
Here are my five cards I have to show you. I started by stamping the images in both MFT Natural Ink for the no-line look and then in SSS Black Intense Ink to color with Copics. I also use colored pencils over the Copics on all of these images. I recently purchased thet Faber Castelle Polychromos colored pencil set because I was frustrated with my Prismacolors. They kept breaking when I would sharpen them so I only use an electric sharpener now. But if you want to know which type I prefer, I would have to say BOTH! The prismacolors are wax based and they go on like wax and blend so nicely. The Faber Castelle ones are oil based, so they go on like a #2 pencil and blend like a pencil blends. The points stay sharper and they are made better (better quality), but they are also pricier. So I would go with the Prismacolors if I was just buying one set. But I am certainly having fun with both sets as they have different colors in them!
Card 1:
Tips:
- For this card, I used the SSS Waves Stencil for the background; I taped it to a piece of Ranger Watercolor Paper that was die-cut into a stitched rectangle; I used Ranger Blending Tools to rub on Distress Inks in Salty Ocean, Peacock Feathers, and Tumbled Glass
- Die-cut a stitched rectangle from the turquoise glitter paper using the SSS Stitched Rectangles and then one size smaller from white cardstock to layer over the background; I used the white as a canvas for my stamped images
- I stamped the images on white cardstock with black ink and colored them with first Copics and then colored pencils; I realized after I made this card that I forgot to color the rock below her, so I guess it is a white rock!
- I added some glitter Tonic Nuvo Drops in Sherbet Shimmer and Blue Lagoon (my two favorite colors of Nuvo Drops!)
Card 2:
Tips:
- I used the same SSS Waves Stencil I used on the last card (couldn't resist as it is so perfect for this stamp set); this time I used Ranger Distress Oxide Inks over white cardstock in Salty Ocean and Tumbled Glass
- I made a frame out of the glitter paper using a SSS Stitched Rectangle
- The images are all stamped with black ink and colored with Copics and colored pencils
- I used a PPP banner die for the sentiment and stamped it with the Mermaid Blue Embossing Powder in the kit
- I again added some glitter drops in Blue Lagoon
Card 3:
Tips:
- This is my shaker card as there is always a shaker card!; I die-cut a stitched oval from the center of a card size piece of the embossed paper in the kit
- I used a white cardstock oval for the inside piece and I stamped the sentiment on it with the embossing powder in the kit
- I used the gold sequins in the kit inside the shaker window; I also added some sparkling clear sequins by PPP
- I stamped all of the images on white cardstock with MFT Natural Ink and colored them with Copics and colored pencils for a no-line stamping look
- I added some of the gold sequins on the outside of the card as well
Card 4:
Tips:
- I used the SSS Beachy Waves cling stamp for the background with the embossing powder in the kit; then I cut the top part off of it so it was just the waves
- I used Distress Oxide Inks for the top portion of the cards in Spun Sugar, Coral, and Lemonade
- I stamped the sentiment on a stitched rectangle from the SsS Storybook 1 die and used the embossing powder in the kit (love that color!)
- I stamped all of the images with MFT Natural Ink and then colored with Copics and colored pencils; I added some white Uniball marker lines to the fins
- I finished with some PPP 4mm and 6mm droplets
Card 5:
Tips:
- I used another one of the SSS cling stamps for this background called Stepping Stones with the embossing powder in the kit; after it was embossed, I rubbed Distress Oxide inks over it using the two in the kit (Story Sky and Tumbled Glass)
- I stamped the sentiment on an inside piece of the PPP Stitched Pieces die
- I stamped all of the images with MFT Natural Ink and colored the same way as above
- I used Tonic Nuvo Drops in Oyster for the pearl
Are you in the mood for the beach yet? I am! My dream is to live on the sand some day in a tent. Below is a list of all of the products I used in this post. I'm in the process of adding tips below each card, but I'm taking care of a 5 month old, so this post is taking a little longer than usual to do. So if you don't see tips, come back for them! Thanks so much for visiting today! Suzy
