Today is the much anticipated Altenew Watercolor 36 Pan Set Release Blog Hop plus a give-a-way (whew long title!). The hop starts on the Altenew Card Blog and there are a total of 33 blogs in this hop (another whew! haha). This is a pretty exciting product and you will be very inspired after following along with all these awesome designers! Here are some details about the new Watercolor Pan set as well as a graphic that shows the top of the product packaging:
Product Description:
This beautiful set of 36 vibrant watercolor half-pans coordinates perfectly with our line of ink. They are intensely pigmented, fade minimally when drying, and some colors have lovely granulating effects. They are stored in a convenient plastic case, designed with space for your brush (included) and a palette in the lid for mixing. Some of the case lids snap off upon opening and can easily snap back on after you are finished creating so you can store your mixed paints with the rest of the pan colors.
The set contains the following:
36 Artist Grade Watercolor Half-Pans
Plastic Case
Water Brush
Here is a list and links to all of their new products that go with this watercolor set:

Here are four cards I have made using the new watercolor set with some tips for each one. I have more business regarding this hop at the bottom of this post!
Card 1:
This card uses the Peony Spray Stamp set. I used the watercolors to paint the flower as well as the background. I also used them to paint the top and bottom border I die-cut with the SSS Scallop Stitches Dies.
Tips:
- Use Simon Says Stamp Black Intense Ink to stamp the flowers as the ink does not run with watercolors
- Paint the background by adding water all around the image and adding the paint close to the image and letting it flow outwards; the water will give it a natural line around the edges; also add some water and paint to your brush and flick it over the background to add splotches
- Use more than one color on the flower - I used both rose pink and orange to add visual interest
- I used Tonic Nuvo Drops in Blue Lagoon Glitter to add shimmer to the background; I added small and large dots to look like they were part of the watercolor splatters on the background
Card 2:
This card uses the Totally Tropical Stamps and Die Bundle. I painted the background and the flowers with the new watercolors. Here is a detailed image of the background before I covered it with the flowers:
I used a flat watercolor brush wet and then dipped into the paint color. I then painted a line of each color along the front of the card. For the top pink line, I used the side of the brush. I splattered some wet green paint over the lines to add visual interest.
Tips:
- Instead of painting the entire background, I thought it would be nice to create just a canvas the size of the flowers so that is why I did the lines as shown in the photo above; get creative in how you use your watercolors below flower images
- I stamped all of the images with MFT Natural Ink and then watercolored them; I like to have outlines that match, so I used colored pencils and glitter pens to add outlines and shadows around each item.
- I like lots of interest on my background so besides the flicked green paint, I also added some Sparkling Clear Sequins and some Tonic Nuvo Drops in Shocking Pink
- I die-cut the word Aloha that is included in the stamp and die set for the sentiment (oh how I miss Hawaii - ALOHA to you all!)
Card 3:
This is my random stamped card using the GORGEOUS Garden Treasure Stamp set. I stamped all of the images with SSS Black Intense Ink again (as it also works with water so only one black ink is needed - whoopeeeeee!). I used Fabriano watercolor paper for this one. It is my favorite watercolor paper of all time, so when I don't mind a creamy colored background I use it (otherwise I use Ranger as it is the only pure white watercolor paper out there even though the quality is no where near the Fabriano).
Tips:
- Use a Misti to stamp your images as it makes random stamping way easier - just arrange the stamps like puzzle pieces
- I painted all of the flowers and the background with the new watercolors again using more than one color on each flower for visual interest; I also used a wash of the same colors in the flowers on the background
- Use a white Uniball marker for the inside tips on the flowers - it is opaque and shows up over anything - yippee!
- I stamped the sentiment on a banner using Red Geranium embossing powder
- I layered two borders, one painted yellow and one coral for the sentiment so it stands out more against the background
- Last, I added some PPP Raspberry Sequins in both 4mm and 6mm around the flowers
Card 4:
I picked this Patterned Play Circle Stamp Set to use with the new watercolors as I thought it would be really fun to paint inside all of those bubbles. I also wanted to mix the two colors where the bubbles overlapped. I embossed the background stamp with white embossing powder so I could paint inside the raised edges.
Tips:
- Use shades of greens and blues in the circles; mix some colors in the palette so you have more color choices; mix the two colors for the pieces that overlap
- Use a wash of the same color palette for the background; wet it all first so the colors spread together
- Stamp the sentiment on a banner using SSS Island Blue ink
- Add some of the PPP from the Mermaid Mix over the background and the edges of the banner.
