Today is the exciting Simon Says Stamp new product release called Cherished BLOG HOP! I love being part of these hops because YOU all leave me such nice comments! So bring it on hahahaha! The entire new release is HERE and I have a new set of watercolor cards that are part of this hop called Birds and Butterflies as you can see here:
There are 12 card fronts and they are all printed on Ranger watercolor paper. You can watercolor them with any of your paint options or you can color them with markers or any other coloring medium. They are meant to attach to a card front, so most have salutations. I left a few without so you can add your own or leave them as just a note card.
I ended up painting many of these images more than once as I just couldn't stop (they are my favorite set I've drawn so far)! So below are all 12 of the watercolor card fronts painted and made into cards and some have 2 or 3 versions of them! Because there are SO many photos, I didn't do a very good job on them (I kind of rushed) - so please don't judge me haha! For all of these cards, I used my Daniel Smith watercolors and my Kaiser Craft Glitter Pens (for details and shading). I added Tonic Nuvo Drops to most of the cards for extra detail - I bought myself a bunch of these for Mother's Day and I can't get enough of them - they are like colored Glossy Accents and are awesome for adding a little touch of dimension to the cards instead of sequins. There are three types I used: Glitter Drops which are clear with colored glitter in them, Jewel Drops which are transparent and very light in color, and Crystal Drops which are opaque and rich in color. The tips let them out in tiny little bits so they can be used as just small spots or as large droplets.
Card 1 (3 versions):
I die-cut each of these to be smaller than a card front so it would show the card color as a matte. For the first two I used MFT Blueprints 2 rectangle and for the last one with stitching I used MFT Blueprints 13. This is the only card that didn't have a salutation written on it that you can actually fit a stamped one on. I added an image from the SSS Uplifting Thoughts stamp set on the first two and embossed them with Wave and Pink Lady embossing powders. I stamped the third one on the SSS Sketchy Banner Dies. I used Tonic Nuvo Drops around the flowers and leaves on each card in the following colors:
Card 2 (two versions):
On the second card here, I used the Tonic Nuvo Drops on the center portions of the butterfly wings. I used MFT Blueprints 2 to die-cut the rectangle for the first card and Blueprints 1 for the second card. Here are the Tonic Nuvo Drops I used on these two cards:
Card 3:
I used MFT Blueprints 2 for the rectangle For this one, instead of using Nuvo Drops I used Pretty Pink Posh sequins in 4mm Lemondrop and 4mm Cobalt.
Card 4:
I used MFT Blueprints 2 for the rectangle die and I used Nuvo Drops on the flowers, the bird, on the leaves, and over the word YOU in the following colors:
Card 5:
On this card, I used MFT Blueprints 2 for the rectangle and then I used Pretty Pink Posh Sparkling Clear Sequin Mix and Tonic Nuvo Drops in Strawberry Coulis and Rosewater.
Card 6 (two versions):
For these two cards, I used MFT blueprints 2 for the first rectangle and MFT Blueprints 13 for the second stitched rectangle. I used a white Uniball marker for the small dots on the butterflies. I used Tonic Nuvo Drops in the following colors:
Card 7 (two versions):
I used MFT Blueprints 13 for the first stitched rectangle and MFT Blueprints 2 for the second rectangle. I used several colors of Tonic Nuvo Drops on both cards. I covered all of the letters and the dots on the flowers on the first card with them for extra dimension. Here are the colors I used on both cards:
Card 8:
This bird is probably my only realistic bird - he is a Belted Kingfisher and he can live at the beach. I painted him in the actual colors the male is. I used MFT Blueprints 13 for the stitched rectangle and Tonic Nuvo Drops in Gloss White.
Card 9:
I painted the birdhouse yellow and then I used the edge of the paintbrush to add little flower petals all over the house. I used my glitter pens and white Uniball marker to add all of the details. I used Tonic Nuvo Drops in two colors:
Card 10:
I love hummingbirds, so this card might be my favorite! I painted him in all bright colors (very unrealistic!). I used the Lawn Fawn Large Stitched rectangles to die-cut this one full card size. I didn't add a salutation to this one as there wasn't really a place for it, but I think it is nice as a notecard. I used Nuvo Drops around the flowers and leaves in the following colors:
Card 11:
This card is not my usual colors! I painted it in all golds, grays, blacks, reds, oranges, and yellows to paint it. I added some black dots with the Nuvo drops - the black adds the perfect drops on cards as it is very opaque and lays fairly flat unlike some of the other colors. I also used it for all of my birds eyeballs! The white lines are all drawn with a white Uniball marker. Here are the Tonic Nuvo Drop colors I used:
Card 12:
And last up today is my butterfly card with no sentiment! I used m y glitter markers and my white Uniball quite a bit on this one to add details to the butterflies. I used the MFT Blueprints 2 for the rectangle. I added Tonic Nuvo Drops in Gloss White and Blue Lagoon.
Here is a gallery with lots of projects using this new release. Make sure to add your projects there too! There will be a prize package worth more than $25 on each stop of the blog hop. The winners will be announced on the SSS Blog next Tuesday. If you win, just email SSS and they will mail you out your prize!
Next on the blog hop is Amanda Korotkova. Enjoy the hop and thanks so much for visiting today! Below is a list of all of the products I used on these cards as well as all of the products in the new Cherished release. xoxo Suzy

Thank you for showing these! I was wondering what they were and how they might turn out. I especially appreciate you showing variations of the same image. So cool. (love the pink purple and blue bird!) I didn't realize they were on watercolor paper either, so one less step I have to do, can just get to coloring and go from there. Not sure it will look as nice as yours though.
