Hey out there - anyone remember me?!?!?! Holidays, holiday hangover (recovery), and a big bad cold have kept me away from the thing I love doing the most - creating! But today I am finally back with a "one stamp, five ways" post showcasing a beautiful floral set I can't wait to show you. It's called Doodle Blossoms by MFT - it was released a couple months ago. It comes with a stamp set and a matching die set. Here is an image:
See, TOTALLY ME! I love flowers and doodled flowers make me giddy. I have five cards to share with you today showcasing this set so let's get started!
CARD 1:
This gorgeous HUGS die was just released by MFT so I used it on two of my cards today. I love how big it is. I die-cut it out of watercolored mixed media paper. To start, I took a piece of my favorite mixed media paper by Canson (I use it instead of watercolor paper for card backgrounds as it is thinner - 90 lb. - and pure white and doesn't buckle with water much) and painted it with blue watercolor. While the paint is wet, I drip lots of water on it and some more paint splattered on it so I get mottled effects. I love doing this for card backgrounds to use in place of cardstock as you get more texture and interest. I die-cut this piece into a stitched rectangle and then die-cut the word HUGS out of the top of it since it would be underneath my card.
Next, I used another MFT new die called Scallop Basic Edges to give a beautiful scalloped curved border to a white cardstock stitched rectangle for the top portion. This layers over the blue watercolored piece and attaches to a card base. I stamped the doodled blossoms with MFT Natural Ink and then watercolored them for a no-line stamping look. The blue flowers are stamped with black ink and also watercolored in. I arranged them over the border and under the word HUGS. I finished with some Pretty Pink Posh sparkling clear sequins in various sizes around the flowers.
CARD 2:
For this card, I wanted to create a messy floral bouquet painting with the stamps. I used masks for the flowers to block them once stamped so I could overlap images. I stamped all the images with different colors of Distress Inks and then used the inks to watercolor in the images as well. Because they blend so well with water this gave me that "Monet" messy look I was looking for. Once it was done though, I wanted more outlines for the flowers so I ended up outlining them all with my glitter markers anyway! I added lots of water to the background and dropped in several of the colors of the flowers and the leaves so they would blend together. I splattered some of the pink paint over the entire thing for little splatters (use a smaller paint brush for bitty splatters - I used a size 2 here).
I die cut a stitched rectangle and then an MFT Rounded Rectangle out of a piece of mixed media paper. I painted it with pink/purple paint with lots of splatters on it for interest. This became my frame over the painted piece. I used a sentiment from the Geometric Greenery stamp set stamped on a stitched banner from MFT Blueprints 2. I added some PPP 4mm pink sequins.
CARD 3:
I started this card with a watercolored piece die-cut with the MFT Horizontal Essentials Cover Up Dynamics. I attached that to a white card base. I stamped the sentiment using several colors of Lawn Fawn ink layered over each other (by using a Misti you can apply several colors of ink in layers). The sentiment is from the MFT stamp set called You Bake Me Happy. Next, I stamped all the gorgeous blooms and stems with MFT Natural Ink and watercolored them. The stems with solid images are stamped with Lawn Fawn ink. I layered all the images in the top rectangle and then layered the stems/leaves between the words in the bottom rectangle. To finish the card I used my new NUVO drops in Morning Dew which are clear and dry to create little droplets that look like water around the flowers. I'm so bummed I discovered these Nuvo drops as now I want them in all the colors they come in!
CARD 4:
This is my second HUGS card and I realized after I made it that it looks very similar to my first HUGS card - uh oh! Same colors and everything! I like this one better though, so worth a second attempt at the same look! I watercolored paper with a purplish color and then die-cut the big word HUGS and also a scalloped border from the new MFT Scalloped Basic Edges dies. I die-cut a stitched rectangle from white cardstock and also used the same die along the bottom of this piece to layer. I layered the two borders on a turquoise cardstock base. I stamped the large bloom with black ink and watercolored it in. I stamped the flowers and stem with MFT Natural Ink and watercolored them in for a no-line look. I arranged them all coming out of the word HUGS and up onto the card. I added some PPP pink sequins.
CARD 5:
I think this card (my standard randomly stamped images card) is my favorite today. I stamped all of the images using Versamark Ink and embossed with white embossing powder. I used Arches Hotpress watercolor paper which is just amazing to paint on. I lets the colors blend together beautifully. I pull it out for paintings I want to turn out perfectly. I applied my Daniel Smith paints to all of the images and added some shading with my glitter pens. The sentiment is made with the NEW MFT SENTIMENT STRIPS dies. I have to have all of their little stitched banners for sentiments and this is the perfect new set of three. The are usually just sold as part of the Blueprints set, so it was nice to be able to buy just the banners this time. I watercolored it with Coral paint and then stamped the sentiment with Versamark Ink and embossed with WOW Pink Lady embossing powder.
I'm going to be on a stamp companies design team starting next month. I usually prefer to do my own thing so I have time to do my "one stamp, five ways" posts with whatever stamps appeal to me. But I have one company that i love EVERYTHING THEY MAKE so I contacted them and it was perfect timing as they were looking for new members. I'll announce that next time, but guess what company was the most appealing to me to design for! I also will continue to design for Simon Says Stamp this year and hopefully have more watercolor card sets coming out. Thanks so much for all of your support during 2016 and for joining me for my first 2017 post! Happy New Year friends! Suzy
Wow! The colors just pop! I really like the last cards and the hugs card. 💕
