New Set of Watercolor Cards at Simon Says Stamp

I'm assuming (hopeful) that all of my blog readers are in the middle of ho, ho, ho season and are not thinking about Valentine's Day quite yet. But today I am showing you my newest set of watercolor cards at Simon Says Stamp that are for Valentine's Day 2017! Now before you write off this post as not something you are in the mood for, just wait - I have a way to relate it to the current holiday!

Do you have crafty friends or relatives? Do you have children in your life (or adults) that like to color? Do you want to spend about $10 and not break the bank to make someone happy? Then this post IS for you! I think with the current coloring craze, a set of watercolor cards is the perfect gift. And if you want to step it up a bit, add some watercolor markers or colored pencils or even my favorite glitter markers! Here is an image of these Valentine cards - which I tried to keep primarily non-holiday specific so they could be used for love all year long.

These cards are all printed on the back side of Ranger watercolor paper, but they work with any coloring medium you prefer. I've colored most of them so you can see how they look once they are done. I've primarily used my Daniel Smith watercolors on these because I find watercoloring to be the most fun and the fastest. I also did one with Copic markers. Another great coloring tool for these is the Zig Clean Color Brush Markers.

This dog card was my favorite, so I thought I would start with him. I painted this with watercolors and then added some shading with my glitter pens and a white Uniball marker. I die-cut the rectangle using MFT Blueprints 13 so it left some space to show the card base color.

   

I colored this one twice as it was also one of my favorites. Which one do you want to live in? If you click on the pictures you will get a bigger view. I decorated and outlined the one on the right with the glitter pens. I used the black one to outline the entire thing and the sentiment so the lines are thicker and darker.

This one is also watercolored. I applied the color to the left side of each letter and then blended it lightly with water so most of the color is on one side. I added some paint that has a nice sheen to it over the background.

I wasn't sure how to draw mice - but this was my first attempt - haha. This one is watercolored and I used glitter pens for the red hearts and rose and to add shading to the umbrella. I like adding a little paint around the images for a sky, but not all the way out to the edges. If you wet the area first and then paint it, the color will bleed outward into the water and not leave a harsh edge.

    

I colored this image with Copic markers and outlined all the letters and elements with gray markers. I used Glossy Accents on all of the hearts and the word Brighter to give them dimension and sheen. 

This is also painted with watercolors. I wanted the sky to be like a sunset of love with pink under the clouds around the hearts. I added some sequins to finish it.

    

I love watercoloring big areas like this heart. I fill the entire thing in with water and then paint just around the edges letting the color bleed inward. This is why I love watercolors so much - the way they work with water. I added some shading with my red glitter pen. Did I mention I ordered two more sets for myself for Christmas in case my current ones run out? Yep, I love them that much!

   

I painted this one with watercolors and used my red glitter pen to shade the flower. I added red sequins over all the dots and some yellow ones over the background. For the leaves, I wet the entire thing and then added paint to just the outsides so the color moves inward.

    

This one is also watercolored. Nothing too special to mention here - just added sequins over the heart.

I liked this image so much better once it was colored and it was the most fun to paint. I liked making the little tiny roses look shaded. I painted them once with a light red and then once dry, added a second coat to certain areas for shading and dimension. 

There are a couple of others I haven't gotten a chance to paint yet bringing the total to 12 (the tree and the Love You heart). There are quite a few other sets available at SSS that would be great for gifts as well - for different holidays, seasons, and birthdays. Are you all done with your shopping? I have barely started! Hi Suzy! I guess it is a little hard to think about Valentine's Day when we are in the panic stage of getting ready for Christmas. (At least I am!) But I love these watercolor cards as you make it so easy for us to create quick, cute cards! This set is another great one.
