Today I am guest blogging for Neat and Tangled. I'll be their guest three times this month and each time I'll be doing a "one stamp, five ways" post with one of their stamp sets. Today I'm going to be using my FAVORITE stamp set (maybe of all time!) called Big Top Birthday. Here is an image:
The set also comes with dies. Neat and Tangled has their own shop where you can buy the stamp set HERE or the dies HERE. They are also available at Simon Says Stamps (links in the product list at the bottom of this post). Here are my five cards using this set:
I was trying to only use Neat and Tangled products for these cards and I don't have very many of their dies to use for backgrounds, so I got a little creative on this one. I hand drew the border and then watercolored it in. I may have to try this technique again!
Steps:
- Die-cut a stitched rectangle out of watercolor paper (I used Fabriano here because of it's great texture). Watercolor it with reds and yellows, blending the colors in spots. Attach the rectangle to a off-white card base.
- Doodle a scallop border on the card around the rectangle. Add lines along the stitching on the rectangle as well. Paint the scallops in to match the watercolor on the rectangle.
- Stamp all of the images on white cardstock using black ink. Color them in with Copic markers. Attach the images over the background. Add some little lines with red ink around the images.
This card shows my love of color! I cannot state strongly enough how much I love these little images. Aren't they just SO cute?
Steps:
- Die-cut a stitched rectangle out of Ranger Watercolor paper (this time I used the more textured side of the paper). Wet the entire paper and then drop colors onto it letting them slightly blend. Leave some areas white.
- Die-cut a stitched oval out of the center of this piece. Die-cut a second stitched oval out of white cardstock. Attach the watercolored rectangle to a white card base and then the white cardstock oval inside it.
- Stamp all of the images on white cardstock using MFT Natural Ink so you can do no line coloring. Color the images with Copic markers. Add doodled borders around the images with an extra fine point black marker.
- Attach all of the images to the white oval so it acts as a frame. Attach the Happy Birthday banner to the bottom of the oval. Add some small yellow sequins around the images.
This card is my favorite as I just LOVE these colors. And how cute is this little boy with his mustache holding up the banner?!?!?! This card (sentiment) could be used as a congrats card for a different occasion than a birthday too!
Steps:
- Die-cut a stitched rectangle one size smaller than a card base (4" x 5.25") - I used the MFT Blueprints 13 die. Watercolor this with blues and greens. Splatter some turquoise paint over it while still wet.
- Attach this piece to a white card base. Die-cut an oval from white cardstock and attach it to the center of the watercolored piece.
- Stamp all of the images on white cardstock with black ink. (I stamped them with MFT Natural Ink so I had no lines, but then I outlined them anyway with black marker). Attach all of the images to the white oval.
- Add some stars and lines from the stamp set around the images on the background using turquoise and lime green ink pads.
- Attach some blue, green, and white sequins around the images to finish it off.
I painted a polka dot background with all one color for this one and then I used almost ALL of the images on one card. Too much? I couldn't resist! I had to have one over the top card since the stamp set is called big top birthday - haha!
Steps:
- Die-cut a stitched rectangle out of watercolor paper (I used Fabriano for this one). Wet the entire piece and then watercolor blue dots all over it so they run into each other and the background becomes light blue.
- Attach this piece to a white card base.
- Stamp all of the images on white cardstock using black ink. Color all in with Copic markers. Arrange them on the card as shown.
- Add some sparkling clear sequins to finish off the over the top look!
This card is very simple and only uses one of the images. I wanted to show how this stamp set can be used for a wedding card instead and be more classy and elegant. This is my attempt to balance the over the top card shown last!
Steps:
- Die-cut a stitched rectangle (I used the one in MFT Blueprints 13) out of watercolor paper. Paint the top half pink and the bottom half purple.
- Die-cut a stitched circle out of the top center of the card. Die-cut another out of white cardstock. Attach the rectangle and the white circle to a white card base.
- Stamp and die-cut a cake and banner with black ink on white cardstock. Color in the cake with Copic markers. Add details with an orange glitter gel pen. Attach to the circle on the card.
- Stamp the sentiment on the banner with Hero Arts Bubblegum Ink. Attach to the bottom of the card.
- Tie some twine to the card and add some Pretty Pink Posh 4mm sparkling clear sequins around the cake.

The circus themes are so fun, but I gotta tell you...your wonderful watercolor backgrounds have stolen the show for me. I just so admire the color combinations and the pretty blends you get.
