I'm back! I wish I could have done a "one stamp, five ways" post, but with my new busy schedule (see last post), I was happy to get two cards done for the first time in a couple weeks. My Favorite Things has the cutest stamp sets by Birdie Brown - every month they are my favorite of their new release. The set she did for their July release is just perfect, so I used it for my two cards today. It's called Beary Special Birthday and there are also a set of dies to use with it. They are having their 10th anniversary this month! MFT will always be very special to me as I designed a line of stamps for them for a while called "Sunny Day Doodles". I loved working for them and being on their design team and I'm so proud of their continued success.
It's such a useful stamp set for birthday cards with all those salutations that can be mixed and matched. I love the cute little bear and the cakes - so fun to color! I made two SHAKER cards to share with you today using this set as well as some of their other new July dies.
This is a four pocket shaker card! I made it using a new MFT die called the Gift Box Cover Up. The outside of the die is a frame and the inside has four stitched rectangles. I die cut it from Ranger watercolor paper (the smooth side) and then painted the frame part with Distress Inks in Worn Lipstick and Picked Raspberry. I added some water droplets and removed some of the color so it has a mottled look to it. I placed a transparency behind it and then built up two layers of foam tape along all of the frame lines (not just the outside edges) so each square is a separate pocket. I attached the stitched rectangles to the card base using the frame as a guide. I stamped the sentiment on the top right rectangle and then placed Pretty Pink Posh colored sequins in the middle of each of those squares. I removed the adhesive from the foam tape and carefully attached the frame over the sequins creating four separate shakers.
I wanted my images to have no-lines, so I stamped them with MFT Natural Ink. I then colored them all with Copics and added some details with a white Uniball and an orange glitter gel pen (I really need to get these in more colors!). I attached these images over the background. I added three Pretty Pink Posh sparkling clear sequins to the bottom right. I loved how these stamps looked with no outlines, so I wasn't even tempted to outline them with a marker this time!
This card uses the same stamp set as well as three of their new dies. I started by die-cutting a stitched rectangle using MFT Blueprints 13 and Ranger watercolor paper (smooth side again). Next, I die-cut a rounded corner rectangle from the center of it that left a stitched outline around the edges. This die is part of the new Time for the Bubbly die set. I painted this piece with watercolor using Tumbled Glass and Mermaid Lagoon Distress Inks. I attached a transparency to the inside of this piece and built up two layers of foam tape along the backside. I attached the inside piece from this die that I left white to a white card base and poured some clear sequins onto it. I attached the frame over the top creating the shaker pocket.
Next I die-cut one of the Chevron Fringe Border die out of Ranger watercolor paper. I cut part of it off so it is shorter and I painted it with Distress Inks in Worn Lipstick and Picked Raspberry. I attached that piece along the bottom edge of the opening. I die-cut their new "happy birthday" die (free with a $60 purchase from MFT!) from Ranger watercolor paper and I painted those with the same two colors of ink. I attached the words to the top edge overlapping the window. Last, I stamped the adorable bear in a package with MFT Natural Ink and colored it in with Copics. I added some details with a white Uniball and a Colorless Blender marker. I attached the present over the window. I added some more Pretty Pink Posh sparkling clear sequins and some twine to the top of the card.
I can't wait to play with this stamp set some more - two cards just doesn't satisfy me anymore! I had a lot more ideas to make with it, but that will have to wait until after I enjoy more summer time taking care of my girls! I hope you are all having a nice summer and enjoying the heat and family time! Suzy
So happy to see that you have time to blog again! I pray that your daughter is doing well and that is how you are able to have time to create your cute cards. Have been praying for your family. As always, your cards are awesome!! Love the colors on the frames - love the frames and how you made shaker cards. MFT will be selling lots of these stamp sets after seeing what you do with them! Thanks for sharing your talent!! Was glad to see your post and hope that all is going well with your daughter!
