Hello all - I'm back in only two days - yay me! Today I am sharing five cards using the Simon Says Stamp July Card Kit. The stamp in the set is gorgeous as usual and has florals in it which means I am in love! Here is an image of both the kit and the stamp set called Handwritten Floral Greetings:
The colors are gorgeous and the kit comes with four inks that match the papers perfectly. They are double sided and really thick papers. The stamp set coordinates with the papers almost exactly. It also includes a water brush with a really fine tip and two pieces of Ranger watercolor paper. I made five cards with this kit so let's get started!
You know I can't resist making a wreath with little floral stamps! Here are the directions:
- Die cut one of the Ranger watercolor pieces into a stitched rectangle. This one uses my SSS Stitched Rectangle set.
- Die cut another stitched rectangle 4"x5.25" out of the purple floral paper and attach that to a pink card base.
- Stamp the little flowers and leaves in a circular fashion using the inks in the kit. To get different intensities stamp some with first generation stamping and some with second. If desired add shading by stamping the ink pads on a slick surface and picking some of the color up with a paintbrush to add additional color.
- Using your water brush, pick some of the inks up off the slick surface and paint them around the flowers making sure to use a lot of water so the colors are very light.
- Stamp the sentiment on the bottom of the card with SSS Intense Black Ink. I outlined mine making the letters thicker with a fine tip black marker.
- Add some PPP 4mm sparkling clear sequins around the wreath design.
- Attach your wreath cardstock on top of the purple floral paper.
Can you say purple?!?!? Maybe this is more of an orchid color. The colors in this kit are more muted, so of course I had to make a couple cards with brighter colors because that is my thang! But I love that the kit can work for whatever color scheme you like with this gorgeous stamp set! Here are the steps to make this card:
- Create a card base out of the dark gray cardstock; die cut a stitched rectangle from the other piece of Ranger watercolor paper (I used the MFT blueprints 13 rectangle that is 4" x 5.25").
- Paint diagonal stripes on the watercolor paper using an orchid color and a 1/2" flat brush. My stripes are messy as I wet the paper everywhere before painting them. This way the color blends into the white areas.
- Stamp two flowers and several sets of leaves on the white cardstock in the kit; color these pieces with Copic markers; cut the images out along the edges; use a black marker to add black around the edges in case any white shows (I use a Memento black brush tip marker for this).
- Attach the flowers and the leaves on the striped watercolor piece.
- Die-cut a banner out of the gray paper in the kit; stamp the sentiment with Versamark ink and emboss with white embossing powder.
- Attach to the top of the card; add some PPP clear drops around the base of the card and a large sequin from the PPP Sparkling Clear sequin mix.
This card is more the colors of the actual kit as I used several of the inks and a patterned paper in the kit. Here are the directions:
- Create a dark gray card base with cardstock from the kit; die cut a stitched rectangle from one of the patterned papers in the kit (this one is from the MFT Blueprints 13 set and is 4"x5.25"); Note: I die cut this from the center of the paper so the row of black dots went up the center of the card.
- Die cut an MFT rounded stitched rectangle die from white cardstock and place that on the card where you want it and lightly draw a pencil mark around the edges; stamp the sentiment on this (I cut mine into three pieces) using black ink and then rub the orchid ink around the edges of this piece and set aside.
- Stamp the flowers all over the background of the paper so they will tuck under the sentiment (using your pencil lines as a guide). I used three of the four inks in the kit for this - all except the yellow; add details with a white uniball.
- Outline the images with a fine tip black marker if you prefer this look.
- Add a little watercolor in purples and pinks around the images for additional color/shading if desired.
- Attach the sentiment piece over your pencil marks.
- Add some PPP Sparkling Clear Sequins from their mix set.
This is another card that uses the kit exactly as it was intended color wise! Here are the steps:
- Die cut a stitched rectangle out of the patterned paper with the flower designs (used MFT Blueprints 13).
- Color in the flowers and add shading to the background colors with Copic markers.
- Add stamped images in between these flowers and lots of dots around them and above them using the stamp set and the inks in the kit (I used all four colors). Use both first and second generation stamping so some images are lighter than others.
- Die cut an MFT Rounded Stitched Rectangle (smallest one) out of one of the patterned papers that is pink in color; stamp the sentiment on it with the dark gray ink; I outlined mine and thickened the letters; rub the orchid ink around the edges of this piece.
- Attach the sentiment to the top of the card and add some PPP 4mm light pink sequins to the top of the card; rub the same orchid ink around the edges of this rectangle; attach to a pink card base from the cardstock in the kit.
I saved MY favorite for last and again, I altered the colors in the kit to be some of my favorites - greens and blues. I only used the stamp set, white cardstock, and the Ranger watercolor paper for this card. Here are the steps:
- Create a white cardstock card base; die cut a stitched rectangle out of Ranger watercolor paper that is 4" x 5.25".
- Stamp the flowers and leaves on the watercolor paper using Versamark ink and emboss with white embossing powder. To overlap these flowers, I stamped the two partial ones first covering the spot for the full one with scrap paper and then stamped the full one so it was nestled right between the others. This makes it appear to be in front of the others.
- Watercolor the entire images - I used my Daniel Smith watercolors in blues and greens; make sure you wet all areas before applying color so they blend naturally; add color around the flowers on a very wet background as well so the color blends outward. Oh my how I love the look of watercolor doing it's thing!
- Stamp the sentiment on the top of the card with SSS Intense Black Ink.
- Add some PPP sparkling clear sequins. Attach this piece to the card base.
I hope you enjoyed these cards - beautiful kit huh?!?!?! Definitely a great stamp set to own by the always talented Kristina Werner. I enjoyed that some images were solid so good to use with colored inks and some were outlines so I could paint them in. This allowed me to create cards with such different looks. I'll be back on Thursday and Friday with posts using the new Simon Says Stamp summer release! Thanks for visiting and have a great week! suzy
I loved your cards, especially the last one. The colors are beautiful! Thank you for sharing. :)

I was thinking the other day that I hadn't received an email notice of new posts on your blog in awhile, so today I decided to stop by and I see that I missed out on a whole bunch of fabulous posts:( Sadly, this has happened before with the SSS blog. They managed to fix it but I'm not exactly sure how...anyway, I resubscribed to your blog today under a different email address and hopefully I will once again be in the loop. Technology...there are so many things that I'll never quite understand.
Your cards for this post are gorgeous! I LOVE all the fantastic florals! As usual, you did a great job of featuring the versatility of this stamp set and in this case, additional components of the card kit as well. The large bloom that you used on your 2nd and 5th card is so pretty! The techniques you used to color it really highlight its beauty. The softness of the watercolors on the last card creates such an elegant effect. Awesome job!

2 days! Wow! I was so excited when I checked your blog. You have been busy! You are definitely deserving that trip to relax at the beach!! And the cards are awesome as usual! Love the floral stamps. No random stamping this time but the wreath is beautiful and you had to use your expert placement skills to make that look just right! I especially love the big bloom and the colors on the last card. Always love the Versamark ink - really shows off your water coloring skills. The blues and greens are so pretty together! The stamp set is a pretty one, but for me, it is the way you paint them that sells the set. Love the cards - love your painting - thanks for sharing your talent!!! Have a great day!
