HELLLLLLLO ALL MY PLUSHY CARD MAKING STAMP LOVIN' FRIENDS!!!
Today we are celebrating the Simon Says Stamp release of their new adorable Spring Plush dies and felt. You can see the entire release HERE at Simon.
I have several projects to share with you using some of these new dies and felt. So let's start with my favorite creation - a dish towel using the Springtime Chicken die as well as the Daffodil and Daisy dies.
To make this towel, I started with some flannel fabric. I stitched some other fabrics to the bottom and added some trims. Next, I added the new dies. I die-cut the items out of both felt AND fabric. I wanted the dies to stand out a bit from the towel (have some depth and texture), so I lined each fabric piece with felt. This also helped the fabric fray less. I used a Blanket Stitch to attach each item to the towel. I used some embroidery stitches I knew from when stitching used to be my craft of choice - like french knots in the center of the flowers. I used straight stitches for the chicken beak. Here is a close up of Mrs. Chick:
Isn't he/she so cute? Wait, aren't chickens always a she? Roosters are boys and chickens are girls because they lay eggs? Ok, I am getting way off course here, so let's now go to my second creation!
I die-cut this little bunny from the Big Ear Bunny die set out of light pink felt. I used a blanket stitch to seal the edges and stuffed him with a little bit of stuffing. I inserted a straw into his buttox so I could stick it in the cupcake. I attached two little eyeballs and a felt nose and heart. He is really tiny and perfect for the top of a cupcake. I think he would also be cute as a pencil topper or a little keychain. I would love to see a bunch of these as cupcake toppers for an Easter party or a birthday party. Here is a close up of Baby Bunny (see, I'm not naming the sex here as it might just get confusing again).
The next thing I made was a bunny card using the Plush Baby Bunny die set.
This time I die-cut all the dies in this set out of watercolor paper. Well, first I painted solid color washes on the watercolor paper in pinks and blues. I also die-cut several flowers from the Daffodil and Daisy die set. I cut leaves from both sets as well. After I die cut all the pieces, I stitched them all on the card using straight stitch and embroidery floss. I used french knots in the center of the flowers. I put a felt nose on him and an eye ball. I die-cut the piece he is attached to using MFT Blueprints 1 set. I attached that piece to a pink card base. I stamped the sentiment using the stamp set I designed for Simon called Hoppy Easter.
The last thing I made was a card using the Plush Country Sheep die-cut set.
For this sheep, I die-cut him out of Fun Foam twice. I adhered adhesive to the foam pieces before I die-cut them using the Stick-It Sheets adhesive. I covered all of the foam pieces with White Flock so he looked fuzzy and soft. Flock doesn't stick to wet adhesives, so that is why I used the dry adhesive sheets. I made a shaker card by also die-cutting out the center of the sheep using the Simon Frames die set. I filled the shaker with beads and sequins and glitter. I die-cut all the other sheep parts (luckily this was a girl sheep so there weren't TOO many parts...) out of black felt. I used a Pretty Pink Posh Speech Bubble and hand wrote the sentiment.
I want to note that the felt that SSS sells works way better with the dies than other felt I have purchased at craft stores in the past. The SSS felt is thinner and has a thicker feel to it. The dies cut perfectly through it without any fraying. My other felt just didn't cut as well and is definitely not as high of a quality as this new SSS felt. They also cut well through fabrics although I found it was best to place the fabric on top of felt before die-cutting. This gave me a cleaner cut without fraying on the fabric. When stitching through fabric, it is best to line it with the felt so it is thicker and can hold up under all the hand-stitching. The dies work with cardstock and paper products just like regular dies as well so although they are being sold as part of the new felt release, they also work well for cards.
A winner will be drawn for a SSS goodie bag on each stop of the blog hop today. All winners will be announced on the SSS blog on Monday, March 7th. The next stop on the blog hop today is:
I hope you have enjoyed this hop today - you are almost done!!! Thanks for visiting my blog today. I recently started a new blog post I put up each Tuesday and Friday (except today as I did this post instead) called "One Stamp, Five Ways". This is a series I am doing to help us all think of new ways to use our existing stamp sets - some older, some new. Hit "home" at the top of my blog to see some of those posts and visit me each week to see new ones. Thanks so much!!! Suzy
