Today is the release of the Simon Says Stamp April Card Kit. I made seven cards with this gorgeous kit. My favorite part of the kit is the stamp set - of course! So I am showing quite a few ways to use the stamp, thus my title, "one stamp, five ways" using the Birthday Flowers stamp (which you can purchase alone as well). So let's get started! Here is the entire kit:
And here is a close up image of the stamp set:
I made several cards using the same technique - making a watercolored background with the flower stamps. I'll show you all of them first and then explain how I did this technique which I love! It was so fun to do and this stamp set is perfect for creating beautiful floral backgrounds with watercolors.
Everything on these cards is in the card kit except the sequins (and the die-cuts I used). The technique I used for these five cards is the same - I used Distress Inks to watercolor the floral images. I applied the ink to only the outside edges of the stamp. Then I stamped it on watercolor paper. I used a water brush to spread the color to the inside of the image. In some cases I would use more than one color ink on a flower and apply a little to the inside of the stamp (a lighter color) and a different color to the edges. You can see this in the large flowers. I used the same technique with the leaves. Then I would paint the background with a solid color. Last I would stamp some of the little dots in ink over the background. On the second card above, I first stamped the circles stamp on watercolor paper and then spread that color around painting the background first. So it has a little different look to it. I was able to stamp the flowers right over the background by sticking to a similar color palette. The reason I love painting with distress inks is they allow you to STAMP with solid stamps and still get a watercolored look. Next I would just add a salutation to a die-cut out of cardstock and attach all to a card base.
For this card, I stamped the images with solid color inks (Simon Says Stamp inks which are in my supply list below). I die-cut a square out of the stamped images and then inserted that into a square cut out of a rectangle the same size. I attached that to a card base. I cut a stripe from the patterned paper and a scallop border from the PRODUCT PACKAGING to border the square. I stamped the Thanks on a white yardstick banner and used that with one of the plastic dies that came with the kit.
For this card, I stamped the largest flower three times with Distress Ink on watercolor paper. I cut around the edges and used a black fine tip marker to outline the pieces. I used a white Uniball marker to add some white dots. I stamped the sentiment on a die-cut and placed that on the top of the card. The rest of the details are the same as on the last card.
Whew - seven cards from one kit - and I had so much fun! I made all of these in 1.5 days, so they didn't take that long (and yes, I slept haha). I hope you have as much fun with the kit as I did!!! Thanks for the visit. All of my supplies are listed below. Happy Monday! suzy
Fabulous cards; looking forward to getting my kit!

Such a wonderful combination of cards from one stamp set - each one so different from the next, but equally as beautiful!

Hi,
Just stopping by looking for inspiration. This is my first car kit ever. I really like the blue one with "color outside the lines" best I think, they are all very nice. Thanks for sharing

Very nice cards. How do you do to paint with distress inks over the stamp?
