Speaking of my new found LOVE for elephants (see THIS post), I discovered the stamp company called Mama Elephant a few months ago and fell madly in love. Like passionate love I might add. They have the cutest stamps ever! They just came out with a new elephant set that I must have - that will be my next purchase - see it HERE in all it's glory!
I made two cards using my first two stamp sets I purchased when I found them. The first I made for Valentine's Day using the most adorable (I like adjectives and explantation points for that matter) set called LOVE FROM ABOVE. I made a treat bag:
Sorry for the not so great photo - I had used my phone for this one. I used the little cherub and the cloud as well as the sentiment "you are loved" for this one. I used a scalloped rectangle from the My Favorite Things Blueprints 1 set. I attached it to a pink doily and a blue treat bag. I used a little washi tape along the bottom and added some twine to finish it off.
I colored the angel with Copic markers. I added some sheen to the cloud and to the angels wings with my clear Wink of Stella pen. There are so many other cute images in this set I can't wait to play with. I've always had a thing for angels/cherubs and they aren't easy to find. You can see the full set in the links below my post.
For this card, I used the stamp set called Around We Go. I stamped the images with Versamark Ink and then used clear embossing powder on them. The watercolor paper is the Tim Holtz one by Ranger that is PURE white (hard to find white watercolor paper). It comes in card size pieces which are perfect. I actually often find them at Amazon in 20 packs for only $2.99, but they are usually priced higher (right now they are $8.79, but watch them as they occasionally drop). Anyway, back to the card. The reason I stamped the images in CLEAR embossing powder is so they remain white like the card. If I used white embossing powder, the color would be a little more creamy than the white background.
Once I stamped the images, I added the background colors (very much the fun part for me!). I wet the entire piece with a nice thick coat of water. Then I dropped some Distress Inks into the water with a paint brush. I used Peacock Feathers and Picked Raspberries. When the colors mix in the water, you get a pretty purple color as well. I just moved the color around a little with my paintbrush and then dabbed some off with a napkin where there was too much color. I love using this technique for watercolored backgrounds. The important part is to let the paint do it's thing by using a lot of water as a base coat. Once the watercolored background had partially dried, I stamped the fireworks. The partially wet made them slightly bleed into the background. I dried all of the watercolor paint with my heat tool and stamped the sentiment in black Archival ink (waterproof). I die-cut the watercolor paper using a rectangle from the My Favorite Things Blueprints 13. I attached it to Tropical Teal card stock by MFT.
It's Thursday March 26th today. This is an exciting day for me for two reasons. First, my beloved Cockapoo Mayzie turns nine today. Happy Birthday Mayzie! Second, my daughter in law is due today - she is having a baby girl. Although it may not actually come today, it is a special day none-the-less. I'll be waiting by the phone all day just in case. Sorry Mayzie, you may be shown up...
Happy soon to be weekend and see you all sooooooon hopefully with lots of baby pictures! xo
