I hope you like hedgehogs as today I am going to share four cards using the cutest little hedgehogs ever! If you don't even know what a hedgehog is, have no fear. I didn't either before I ordered these stamp sets and now I am a complete fan.
I purchased two stamp sets from Amazon called Hedgie Friends and Critter Party by Penny Black. They make quite a few hedgehog sets that are sold at Simon Says Stamps HERE (go to this link and type in Penny Black Hedgehogs and you will see a bunch of cute sets!). I picked these two as my favorites, but it was a hard choice and I'm sure I'll be buying more soon!
And now to the cards. Let's start with this Happy Birthday one that uses two of the little individual hedgehogs in the Critter Party set. One has a present and is larger, so I decided she is the mother. The other is small and holding a balloon, so I decided "it" is the baby. Don't worry - I didn't name them ... yet.
I stamped the two hedgehogs using Ranger Archival Black ink as it is waterproof on Ranger watercolor paper. Next, I water color painted them using Distress Inks in Black Soot, Tumbled Glass, Peacock Feathers, Worn Lipstick, Picked Raspberry, and Tattered Rose. I used the blue inks to paint the sky and the black ink to paint the ground. I added some Wink of Stella glitter pen to the balloon and present and some Glossy Accents to the balloon. I used a white Uniball marker on the shadow on the balloon. I used a sentiment from THIS set by Simon Says Stamps. I used the Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Rectangles to die-cut the background papers and finished it off with some small pink sequins.
This close up image shows the balloon details a little bit better. I also used the white Uniball marker for the polka-dots on the present. I added some white dots to the hedgehog cheeks too.
For this card, I used the Hedgie Friends stamp set. I followed the same steps as on the card above, stamping them in Archival black ink, painting with Distress Inks, and adding details with a white Uniball marker. The Distress Inks I used on this card are Black Soot, Tumbled Glass, Mowed Lawn, Spun Sugar, Mustard Seed, and Spiced Marmalade. I used Blueprints 20 Dynamics by My Favorite Things for the scalloped rectangle. I used MFT Blueprints 2 Dynamics for the stitched banner and the Lawn Fawn Hedgehugs stamp set for the sentiment. Again, I finished it off with some star sequins from my stash (most from Studio Calico).
This card uses another image from the Hedgie Friends stamp set. I really love that little guy on the bike! I again water colored this using Distress Inks. If you want details on how to use Distress Inks to paint, I did a detailed tutorial on my last blog post about the Elephant card. The clouds on this card are from another adorable Penny Black stamp set called Home Sweet Home. The sentiment came from the same Hedgie Friends set. This is really my motto in life, so I'll be using this sentiment a lot! I used the Lawn Fawn rectangle dies to cut out the squares by cutting them twice and piecing them together. This card is fairly large - almost 6x6".
I saved my favorite card for last. I'm very curious - what is your favorite? I love this little guy with the umbrella. He is supposed to be wearing ice skates, but it made more sense to me that they were rain boots! I used the same techniques here so I won't go into all the details again. I added a couple colors of Distress Inks though - Barn Door, Stormy Sky, and Salty Ocean. Have I mentioned how much I enjoy painting with Distress inks? All the other products on this card are about the same except I used one more stamp set called Hello Sunshine by Lawn Fawn for the clouds and the raindrops.
Whew - did you make it through this with me? I'm plain ol' tuckered out! I hope you enjoyed my Hedgehog cards today! I entered the last card in the springtime pinterest challenge on the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge blog. In the pinterest photos they showed for inspiration, they had the cutest little umbrella and stormy skies scene that totally reminded me of this card. Have a great day friends! See you soooooooooon! oxoxo
