Hi friends! I fell off the face of the earth for a few months. Did anyone notice? I know I mentioned that my dad was really sick in my last few posts in November. He died on December 3rd and I went into a super dark, sad, lonely place for a while. I hope I didn't lose all of my blog readers. During the past couple months, I stepped away from scrapbooking completely as I needed some time to just rest. I was really sick for a long time and emotionally and physically exhausted.
And now I'm back! During this time, I kept trying to doodle, but I couldn't seem to do it. I doodled a lot by my dad's bed for a few days as he passed away. And somehow that just ruined it for me - I can't do it without those memories flooding me. So I have taken a break from that and haven't been in the mood to do project life or scrapbook pages either. I wanted to do something creative that didn't bring back any sad memories. So I started making cards. No memories, no photos, no stress, just fun. Not to mention I want to mail them all to my mom to cheer her up! But I'll be back to all of my usual creative projects in time I am sure!
Over the past couple weeks I've made 10 cards and am in process of making many more. So today I want to share two with you and then I'll post again every couple days until i have shared them all. These cards both use some of my favorite stamps by Lawn Fawn.
This first one uses the Year Four set with a little hippo, birdie, balloon, and party hat. I love this set and it is only $4! At that price, I bought the dies as well which make it so easy to work with. I colored the images with Copic markers and they are blended rather well in real life (they just didn't photograph very well). I used several dies on this card by My Favorite Things (scalloped border and stitched rectangle both from their set called Blueprints 20) and Scalloped Circle Stackables by Lawn Fawn. The paper I used is a 6x6 pad by Avery Elle.
After I colored the images with Copics, I added some shimmer with a clear Wink of Stella marker and then some Ranger Glossy Accents. This gave the balloons some nice shimmery texture. I also used pop-dots under them for added dimension. I wish you could see the glistening of this cloud - it is so much prettier in real life!
My second card uses two fun playful sets by Lawn Fawn called Critters in the Burbs and Hello Sunshine. You can purchase these products at Simon Says Stamps, Amazon, or directly at Lawn Fawn. I've bought from all three of these sources and they are all three easy to shop with and delivered quickly.
I love all of the "critters" in the Lawn Fawn line. The term love may not be strong enough - rather, I'm completely obsessed with owning every single set they make! This little squirrel is so darn cute. I think the reason I am so in love with the Lawn Fawn products is they are exactly what I define my style as: happy, fun, whimsical, and colorful (well, once I color them anyway!). For this card, I used stitched circle dies by Simon Says Stamps - I love that they leave a stitched edge on both the inside and the outside of the circle. I used Ranger inks in Mowed Lawn and Tumbled Glass for the background.
I hope you enjoyed these two cards today. If you like Lawn Fawn products as much as I do, check out their blog for all of their brand new sets. I had to buy ALL of them. I'll post cards using some of these soon. Once I get back into my creative zone, I want to try using these cute little stamps on project life spreads and scrapbook layouts as well. I hope you will start visiting my blog again because I'm back for the long haul. Have a great weekend friends!
Suzy

I'm glad I checked in today. Sending hugs your way. When my dad died 16 years ago, I stopped scrapbooking for awhile, too. He had just become a first time Grandpa 3 months earlier and it was so hard to put photos of my new niece in pages and albums without him. After awhile, as we adjusted to a new "normal," there would be times when I would add some note within the journaling of how I thought Grandpa would respond to the different things that his granddaughter would do. Often, they were the mischievous little naughties that he would have loved in his grandchild and totally would NOT tolerate in his own children. :) That was one way that I found I could move forward and keep his spirit alive and current for me without the sadness of his illness. It took awhile, though, but it was helpful for me. You are a gifted artist and lovely soul, and you have found a beautiful way to move through the sadness and help someone else as well...that's the best way!

I'm so glad I checked in today and so sorry to hear about your dad! I find card making gets me out of my crafty slumps and Lawn Fawn definitely helps make me smile. Time will help and you'll find your way to a new normal, don't beat yourself up and take all the time you need.
