The first day the girls were back in school (Thursday), I had SO many things I needed to do. Summer gets me so behind as I turn into an irresponsible human for three months. I was so intimidated by all the things on my to do list, I decided to celebrate my freedom by making a layout. But of course it had to capture some of our fun summer memories since I was sad it was over!
I had started a thread on Studio Calico asking for someone to give me a challenge to get me motivated. I was told to make a bold, colorful layout in less than an hour. Well, it takes me an hour just to pull products for a layout. So this was a big challenge for me!
I decided to save time, I would go to my Favorite Scrapbook Layouts pinterest board and find something to inspire me. I found this adorable layout with a pie chart I wanted to mimic:
I love everything about this layout! It is from a blog post by a very talented scrapper HERE. Once I had a basic idea of what I wanted to do I started the long chore of pulling products. To save time, I pulled them very quick by looking through just my past couple months of SC kits - I started by finding six 6x6 papers with different bright colors. Then I pulled the letters I wanted to use for the title that were from the Hello, Hello kits. Some of the papers didn't match the letters perfectly, so rather than search again, I just used my neocolors to add some shading to them.
I didn't spend my usual time second guessing everything as I placed it down. I just glued it! I used a 12x12 piece of letterpress paper from Studio Calico as my background. I love the texture of the paper (like watercolor paper) and how white it is. It is also very thick (even the thin one is thicker than cardstock) so it doesn't warp when you paint it. I colored on the background lightly with Neocolors and then a water brush to give it a watercolored look. I also used some of my favorite Mr. Huey's to add drops to the background - Mary Mary, Sunshine, and Sky.
I decorated each of the colors of the pie chart with some of my embellishments from SC kits. I also stitched VERY MESSILY around the edges. I will admit I didn't finish in less than an hour, but I did finish it in about two hours which is good for me. And I was really happy with how it turned out. Now I was ready to tackle my long to do list, get the house clean, and go work out!
Hope you all make something pretty this weekend and don't worry about those dishes - they will be there still tomorrow - heehehe! suzy
