Oh my goodness - I cannot believe tomorrow is the Studio Calico Reveal day of their August Kits - Sandlot. How did this happen so quickly and I'm just getting my sneak images on my blog?!?!?! Oh yeah, it's summer and I don't have a minute to myself... I'm sure you can all relate!
Yesterday, I worked on these all day long and my kids suffered. No beach day for them. They were bouncing off the walls so today I promised to make it up to them. I do love the carefree days of summer.
I made two full spreads with the gorgeous Sandlot kits - and I could have / wanted to make a couple more (refer to two paragraphs above for reason I did not). Here are the sneak images of my spread that uses ONLY the Sandlot Project Life kit and some digital elements I'll show you.
You can see that this PL kit has LOTS of color. And I do love my color! I used several digital elements and a few shop items on this spread that I wanted to show you. Please note that I did not have all of the products in the PL kit when I made this spread, so some are not featured (gold letters, plastic tabs, gold letters, and plastic die-cuts).
The star and heart circles come from a Sandlot digital cut file by Hello Forever. I know, what?!?!?! I was too lazy to use my Silhouette this month (or rather busy - see first two paragraphs above), so I used the gorgeous cut files as print files. I just opened them up in photoshop elements, and changed their color and printed them out. I then punched them out with a circle punch, so the outside ring of color is thinner than the cut file was meant to be. Here they are as they are intended to be used - but just remember, you can print your cut files and get even more use out of them!
You can color wood banners with a multitude of options - watercolors, markers, mist, paint, or my beloved Neocolor IIs. I used the latter. Because I will find any excuse to use my Neocolor collection. They work beautifully on wood. I color them in, apply a little water with a water brush to move the color around, let them dry, and then add some more color to shade with a darker Neocolor. Sometimes I use my finger to move color around and blend as well. You can write directly on the wood with a black marker or when the letters are recessed, I often color them in with a white uniball marker. Here are the Neocolor II's that I felt matched the kit the best: Turuoise Blue, Raspberry Red, Yellow Green, Yellow, Orange, and Pink. Here is a visual of my lovies:
My second spread was made using a combination of all three Project Life Sandlot kits. The two add-ons this month are Yeah Yeah and Repeat. I also used the 4x6 pad and some digital elements I'll show below.
I love how the colors in these kits work so well with beach photos. Any time I print digital elements, I use my Neocolors over them to add more shading. You can see this on several of my sneak images. Here are some of my favorite digital print files this month:
These by Life Love Paper are just delicious. The black blocks are perfect for coloring in with watercolors or Neocolors. I love the watercolor feel of the other elements.
And could this set by In A Creative Bubble say summer any more than they do? I think I used every single one of these!
Last, I wanted to show you one more thing I made with the kits that I haven't had a chance to use yet. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Magic craft die by Kal in the Yeah Yeah add-on kit and I love the silver washi tape in the Repeat add-on kit. Together, they are magnificent!!! Just layer the washi on white paper and cut it out. I also cut one from black cardstock to use behind it as a shadow. Yummy right?!?
So with that, I hope you all enjoy REVEAL DAY TOMORROW! I'll see you in the chats at 8:00 am and 8:00 pm pst. And then we get to shop, shop, shop! xoxo
