Although there are two more days until the My Favorite Things New Product Release, today is my last day to show projects until the actual release on January 7th at 7:00 pm pst. Tomorrow I cannot scrap as I promised to take my girls to the zoo! But today... I made a layout AND a card to share! Make sure to check out all of the DT creations on the MFT blog.
First, I decided I wanted to make a layout that was trendy with a watercolored background and a bunch of mist droplets. I've seen so many of these on Pinterest and I keep pinning them because I love how they look. I have done a lot of watercoloring in my life, but I have a really hard time doing anything that is messy. I want everything to be lined up and perfectly placed. So here is my attempt - interested to see if anyone likes it! I'm just glad you aren't seeing what is UNDER the photos - haha!
I started with a 12x12 piece of watercolor paper - it is thicker and has small indentations all over it so the paint doesn't warp it as easily. A must for a watercolored background! Next, I used some red and pink watercolor all over the background. I applied it very thick - or opaque and then dropped water on top of it to spread it and give it an interesting look. After I was satisfied with the painting portion, I used the mist. I sprayed some, dripped some, and flung some all over the background!
I also added some stamping. I wanted it to be subtle, so I used the Wild Cherry red ink by MFT, but stamped first on scrap paper and then on the layout itself. Every little step made me so nervous and you can't hide mistakes that are done in red on white paper! But then again, with this style, you can't make mistakes, right?!?!?! I used one of Mona's cool new stamps called Distressed Hearts - I love how all of her stamps are perfect for mixed media approaches. I also pulled out an older stamp set that has a stamp with stitching on it called LJD Hearts and Stitches - I added that to the top and bottom of the layout. Again, I tried to embrace the messy. I can't tell you how hard that part was for me!
I wanted to make a balloon boquet to go on the side of my photos. The new Die-namics Heart Balloons were too cute to not use with my new stamp set! I die-cut several and then stamped the DC Heart Balloons on top of each in white and pink inks. I then used the new Die-namics TRANSFORM-ables Heart Full of Love (the larger heart) and stamped Be Mine on it using my new Sunny Day Doodles Love It set. I used mist and watercolors to color the Be Mine and the heart behind it. I attached each balloon with pop-dots and then added twine as the balloon strings overlapping them.
Along the bottom of my photos, I used the Die-namics Staggered Heart Border. I cut one out of red, pink and white and then overlapped pieces of them to form a border. I used some washi tape along the bottom and top edge of the layout and used the "xoxoxo" stamp from the Distressed Hearts stamp set.
Whew - that was a lot of detail. I hope you made it through all that! After I was done, I couldn't decide if I liked the layout or didn't like the layout. I (((think))) I like it and I am VERY proud of myself for making something that is messy. I really enjoyed the process! I had a lot of extra balloons stamped and die-cut, so I whipped together this card as well. It seriously took me about 10 mins to make. Once you have all your supplies out and extra stuff ready to put away, it's the perfect time to make a quick card!
I used the heart balloon die-cuts and stamps again, but this time I used stamps for the balloon strings. I used the "always and forever" sentiment from my set on the large heart die-cut. A few epoxy dots and some ribbon on the bottom and it was all done!
Hope you enjoyed this trip down Valentine's lane! haha (note to self: I must take the Christmas decorations down tomorrow - oh yeah, I can't - I'm going to the zoo). Have a great week friends and come back for the New Product Release Tuesday at 7:00 pm pst! xoxo

My compliments on your layout. I absolutely love looking a Mona's artwork. It is so amazing. But like you I lean toward neat and orderly. I might just have to take the plunge and slap some ink drops all over something. It looks like so much fun. Be proud!!
