Hello my new MFT friends and all my blog friends! Today is the fourth day of MFT teasers for their September product releases. The design team will be showing the new products in use that are introduced today, but I will be primarily using the Celebrate Life set through the seven day teaser week.
First, I would like to say a BIG THANK YOU for all of your kind comments and support of this new line. I cannot express how excited I was last night when I saw the cards the MFT design team made using this set. I (((almost))) cried and I NEVER cry. It was weirdly touching to me. And they did such a beautiful job with them. I loved seeing all the different takes, things I would have never thought of doing. I think this might be the best part of designing stamps - seeing what others do with my doodles. So thank you to the DT members who are so talented and who so kindly put my stamp set into their beautiful creations! Also reading your comments has made me so happy because I had no idea if people would like this set or not. I know my style isn't for everyone - but I am so glad it is for some! haha
Today I wanted to show the stamp set in use on a scrapbook page. I started paper crafting over 10 years ago as a stamper (I was a demonstrator for Stampin' Up). Stamping and card making were my main loves. But over time, I moved away from card making and into scrapbooking. Then after about 8 years of scrapbooking in the industry for primarily assignments, I burnt out. I felt like I was missing the purpose - to document life and it felt a little forced. So last year, I started project life and I have kept that up for a year now and LOVE it. After taking a step back from scrapbooking, I have come full circle back to stamping and making cards again, have regained my love for creating scrapbook pages, and I still adore making my project life as it truly documents our everyday family activites. I wanted this stamp set (and all future sets) to work for all three of these paper crafts and that is why I am showing ways to use them on all three type of projects.
Supplies: Celebrate Life Stamp Set - My Favorite Things; Patterned Paper: Basic Grey, American Crafts, Studio Calico; Washi Tape: KI Memories, Queen and Co., My Minds Eye; Ink: Colorbox; Enamel Dots: My Minds Eye; Arrow and Star Burst Glitter Stickers: Freckled Fawn; Clothes Pin: Pebbles; Twine: Studio Calico; Other: Watercolor Paper, Copic Markers, Watercolors, and Sequins
The first thing I did to make this layout is stamp the "celebrate life" stamp all over a piece of turquoise paper in a slightly darker turquoise ink color. I wanted the stamped design to be subtle while reinforcing the theme of the layout. Here is a close up image of the background:
I then stamped the same stamp on a piece of watercolor paper in black ink. I used watercolor paints to paint the card with three colors in a wash design. I also stamped the "recording memories" stamp several times and cut the scalloped border from the bottom of the image. I painted these in a wash of watercolor paints as well. I colored in the actual designs over the dried watercolors with Copic markers.
I attached one of the scalloped borders below the sentiment. Then I added some details to the card with a black marker and used it for my journaling. I also used the Be-YOU-tiful card I showed a couple days ago on the layout.
Last, I used some more of the cut out scalloped borders along the bottom of the layout to tie in the watercolor doodle look. The smile washi tape was perfect with the doodles as well.
I hope this layout inspires you to use the stamps in more than the obvious ways. Try using them as a background or stamp and then cut parts out to use in a dimensional fashion. Just have fun with them - if you are like me, coloring is therapudic and part of the fun of this stamp set! I'll have a project life spread to show you tomorrow with some of the PL cards I have been making.
In the mean time, return to the MFT blog and leave a comment on their blog post to be eligible to win a $75 gift certificate to their online store. All of the stamp sets for September will go onsale on their website starting on September 3rd at 7:00 pm pst.
And last, the winner of the CELEBRATE LIFE STAMP SET IS: (((drumroll please)))
