It is here. Three more days of school. I'm excited and nervous. Nervous because I won't be getting much done. Excited because my days will be filled with sweet girls and sunny pleasures. Nervous because I don't have my bathing beauty body back from the winter yet. Excited because I don't have to get up early every day and deal with home work!!! Nervous because I don't have ANY plans and I'm not sure what to do to entertain two and sometimes four little girls. Excited because summer is always my favorite time of the year!
This weekend, to get myself leaning towards the excited end of the spectrum, I decided to scrap some of my favorite summer memories from last year. I actually made FIVE (yes, five) pages in one weekend! I will post some today and some tomorrow with instructions on how I made them.
Most of the pages I make these days are two page layouts with primarily 4x6 photos. I love that I have gotten away from making "pretty" pages that don't really tell a story. I'm back to scrapping the way scrapping should be done - to record the memories. I try to keep all of my pages focused on the photos, not the embellishments. So my style over the past two years has become a bit more simple than it used to be. (Thank you to Creating Keepsakes for encouraging all of the these changes).
But yesterday, after making four pages that really recorded memories, I had to let myself make one page that was just about the fun of creating and doesn't really show off a memory at all. This page was made with all of my favorite Crate goodies. One of the things I love about Crate Paper is the PAPER! It is double sided and the back side is usually a solid color with just a subtle design on it which is perfect for a page background.
To make this layout, I punched all the circles with a 2.5" circle punch and layered them. I also punched a photo to be the same size and then cut scallops out of paper to fit around it as a frame. the rest is just layered ribbon, border stickers and chipboard embellishments all by Crate. I punched the three butterflies out of the same paper as the background to keep them subtle using a Martha Stewart butterfly punch. All of the gorgeous little pearls are by Queen and Company (my new favorite embellishment to add to layouts).
This layout gets back to my more usual style. I used three 4x6 photos and slightly overlapped them. I cut swirls out of the patterned paper to border the top and bottom of the photos. I glued some trim to the bottom of the swirls along the lower half of the layout. I then added a title and some flowers. Last, a few Queen and Co pearls thrown on here and there and it was done. I love it when layouts come together so quickly!
I hope you are all enjoying your summer break. More summer layouts tomorrow! Suzy
Well you could always bring back Mrs Buttface for something to do :) I layouts are cute and I totally agree that I need to do more story telling and less fancy scrapping :) But the fancy scrapping is so much fun:) I got my Fast and Fresh Issue on Friday ... thanks again for sending it to me :) Hope you enjoy you summer!
